March 18, 2026 - Seminar Reminder
JNNFM + JoR + RA Seminar

Wednesday, March 18th, at 17:00 CET

Luca Cipelletti (Université de Montpellier)

“Probing the Microscopic Origin of Toughness in Multiple Polymer Networks”.

After briefly introducing advanced light scattering techniques as a probe of the microscopic dynamics in soft solids under a mechanical drive, I’ll focus on experiments and simulations investigating the origin of the outstanding mechanical properties of multiple polymer networks [1]. I will show that their remarkable resilience stems from damage delocalization, where microscopic relaxation dynamics redistribute stress over a previously unsuspected, extended volume, thereby protecting the material from the growth of catastrophic cracks.

About the Society of Rheology

The Society of Rheology is an international community of rheologists committed to advancement and promotion of the rheological sciences and practice of rheology broadly across diverse groups of individuals, disciplines and industries.

We aim to expand the knowledge and practice of rheology through education, partnership and collaboration with associated fields, industries, and organizations, as well as to disseminate to diverse communities what rheology is, and how it impacts humanity and the world.
