About

Eric B. Sirota received his PhD in Physics from Harvard in 1986, studying with Peter Pershan. He then came to Exxon’s Corporate Research lab in Clinton, New Jersey, as a post-doc working with Sunny Sinha and Cyrus Safinya. He never left.Eric became a fellow of the APS (Division of Condensed Matter Physics) in 2021 for pioneering X-ray scattering techniques in soft condensed matter, particularly for studying alkyl-chain crystallization. He continues to do fundamental soft condensed-matter physics, studying crystallization, phase-separation, and viscosity, in simple and complex hydrocarbon systems; Working at the interface of chemistry and engineering, he has been able to apply that science across a broad industry. He often says:“Alkanes don’t care what business sector they’re in; they crystallize when the physics says they should.”

Eric is also a composer/playwright, writing musical theatre. One of his 5 musicals, Frankenstein, was adapted as a movie after playing Off-Broadway for 3 years. He is currently developing another work about music and Alzheimer’s. (https://EricSirota.com)
