Meet the new SoR Communications Liaison and Student Representative
and new Executive Committee Student Representative
Elise (Chuqiao) Chen, SoR Communications Liaison
Meet Elise Chen, Inaugural SoR Communications Liaison
Elise (Chuqiao) Chen is a postdoctoral researcher at University of California, Santa Barbara, working at the interface of polymer chemistry and rheology. Her doctoral research at University of Chicago focused on designing stimuli-responsive particles to tune the rheology of dense suspensions. She now studies coacervation in ionic polymers and the dynamics of polyelectrolyte complexes.
After two rewarding years as the SoR Executive Committee Student Representative, she is pleased to continue these efforts as the inaugural SoR Communications Liaison. Through developing website and social media content, she hopes to let the excitement of rheology flow to a broader community. Suggestions and ideas are always welcome!
I feel very fortunate that Elise Chen has taken on SoR’s new Communications Liaison (CL) role. The goal in establishing the CL position is to help the Society more effectively hear from, and share information with, its members. Elise was selected to take on the role of the CL following her service as the Student Representative on the Executive Committee. Elise is ideal for the position - she’s a great listener, she shares information very effectively, and she loves rheology!”
Meet Jiye Lee, 2026-2027 SoR Executive Committee Student Representative
Hi, I am Jiye Lee, a PhD student in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, working with Professor Simon A. Rogers. I am also the newly appointed Student Representative for the Society of Rheology Executive Committee. I will be serving in this role for two years.
Jiye Lee. SoR Student Representative
In this position, I’m especially interested in expanding opportunities for, and strengthening communication between student members. I believe that a supportive student community, in which everyone is welcome, can enhance professional development for early-career researchers.
As part of this effort, I am organizing the Future of Rheology
Moving forward, I will continue supporting initiatives that increase student participation and strengthen engagement within the rheology community. I look forward to connecting with you soon
